We at 48 are ecstatic to once again display Jamie's works. He's continuing to explore and display a fantastic sci-fi universe in painting nostalgic in style but contemporary in their approach.

For those lucky enough to have seen his 'Tales of Inner Space' series last year and regretted not picking up a painting be sure to bring your checkbooks as this time around some of his paintings will be smaller and sure to sell quick.

Also note that during this show 48 will have our first call for submissions for a group show based on video game & comic fan art! Details to come soon

Boxing Day at 48

We hope everyone scored some nifty toys and goodies this Christmas, we also hope a lot of it came from our store.
Getting into the holiday spirit we've picked some nice specials and extended boxing day into boxing week at 48 till New Years Eve.

Many video game titles from '09 have dropped in price as have many of our action figures.
All regular priced Manga is now %30 off
Regular priced trade paperbacks are %15 off
All of our back issue bin comics are also at half price!

Most of these deals are only on till New Years so be sure to get down to the shop this week. This reminds me that I should also mention that we'll be closing early for New Year Eve around 7:00pm.

Come to the store!

48's getting lots of cool product for Christmas shopping!

Batman fans will be impressed with a large shipment of figurines and cool merch that fits any budget. I personally love our Joker Poker set featuring chips and cards to simulate The Dark Knight Joker's personal deck.

For those who like off beat comics like Umbrella Academy and the Middle Man I highly recommend the CHEW graphic novel.

Stocking stuffers like our Nintendo trading cards, key chains and candy make for a good start. We also have the brand new Blood Energy Potions. From the company that brings us our Mana and Health energy potions comes blood in it's own disturbingly realistic I.V. package.

Magic fans may enjoy the limited edition all foil sliver deck. Sticking a booster pack to a wrapped present is also an awesome addition to enhance any gift.

And as always we have gift certificates that can be made out in any denomination!

It's begining to look a bit like Christmas

Hey folks. Time to clean out those Halloween cobwebs and gear up for another exciting Christmas season.

Fall has had a bountiful harvest of great video games that we've been enjoying in the store and eagerly anticipate in this coming week.

I've been addicted to the looting multi player action of Borderlands. Our regulars have been raving about titles like Dragon Age & Brutal Legend. Be sure to pick up some point cards from us to download GTA IV's Ballad of Gay tony too.

Looking into the future we are anticipating a busy night tonight with our midnight release of Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2.

All you Nintendo fans should keep an eye out for the new Zelda Spirit Tracks and Super Mario Brothers Wii. Mario Brothers Wii will also be our tournament of the month for November. Details to follow soon.

Heavens to Betsy we've had a busy month in the shop!

First and foremost thanks to all who attended our 2nd year anniversary. It was awesome seeing so many friends we've made through the store all together for one night. Good times were most definitely had by all and we're looking forward to many more in the future.

Congrats are also in order to the 'West Side Warios,' the winning team in our first halo Firefight tournament.
Coming in second were Team "BFF" and in third place "Team Tournament Winner" AKA "Harley wins another Mario Tin"

Be sure to practice up for our October tournament: Nintendo World Championships
Pulling together 3 different Nintendo classics players will race to get the highest scores in 7 minutes time.

Don't forget on the horizon is our 24 hour comics and our Zendikar tournament.

2nd Anniversary!

As mentioned in our last post we're celebrating our 2nd birthday on September 13th and we are inviting all our customers to visit us all day on Sunday for open gaming, cake and good times.

The party will really kick off at Fanatics Restaurant just up the block at 8:30 pm with more open gaming and drinks in their upstairs private lounge.

The Arts

Saturday August 15th. 12:00 start.
A sign up sheet will be available in store for preregistration.

Rules: Double elimination. 10 Frag stock deathmatch. Random weapons & levels.

Magic 2010 Has arrived and 4 Colour 8 Bit had both a Prerelease and a Release tournament to celebrate. Congratulations to Andrew Powell for winning our M10 Prerelease and to Shane Davis-Young for winning the Release tournament.

Tuesday night booster drafts and Friday Night Magic are still going strong and we have seen some suprising new deck ideas. We'll see how the new rule changes and a world without Wrath of God have opened up "the batlefield."

We've been treated to a handfull of fun games on all platforms this summer. Prototype & Infamous have all shown that open ended gameplay still has room for inovation. Ghostbusters has all the charm and humor that was expected. UFC is great multiplayer fun. There's even been neat little indie treats like Nights in the Nightmare that continue to show the DS's ability to support unique game experiences.

D&D fans rejoice! The new Eberon Campaign guide has lots of great content and ideas for creative DM's and the official inclusion of the Warfordged and Shapechanger races. Ask me about my warfordged druid build. (It transformes into a cart!)

All you Magic players be sure to check out the new core set(M10) at our prerelease tournaments. If you're as tired of the multicolourd chaos as I am, getting back to the basic 5 colours is going to be a refreshing change. Be sure to come to The sealed deck tournaments on July 11th and July 18th. Participants will get foil promo cards and other fun suprises.

Magic the Gathering Fever!

Our first official Magic Legacy Tournament went well; Scott Sheffield was the overall winner (winning an Underground Sea).

We are planning more Legacy format tournaments for the future (around every two to three months).

Our weekly Magic tournaments include a booster draft every Tuesday as well as Friday Night Magic (standard format) every Friday.

Special Magic events include the Magic M10 Pre-release tournament (sealed deck) on July 11th and the M10 Release tournament (sealed deck) on July 18th.

Come out and have some fun!

Summertime at 4C8B

With a successful Punchout tournament we'll be making sure to host both casual and hardcore video game tournaments on a monthly basis. Magic nights are still going strong with draft night Tuesdays and Friday Night Magic. The new MTG core set is also coming out soon as well. Dont forget, June 20th will be our legacy tournament, so prep that legacy deck, and bring it on in. As always, stop by in the afternoon all week and play a casual game of magic or any of our other in-store games.

Gameing aside it's also been an excellent quarter in comics too with nail biters like Old Man Logan and Kick-Ass blowing your mind and leaving you wanting more. A rise in popularity of everyone's favorite merc with a mouth, Deadpool also makes every Wednesday, a Wednesday to look forward to.

A $5 Entry is all it takes and the more who enter the larger the prize pool will be. And don't worry if you don't think you're 'top tier' enough because even 'newbs' have a chance at bonus random door prizes.

24 Hour Comics

Hey everyone. 24 Hour comics day is approaching again and this time I'm really excited because of a number of reasons...

1. It's at 4 Colour 8 Bit this year.
2. It starts at 10am instead of 6pm so I'm not extra tired at the end.
3. It's not on Canadian Thanksgiving this year so more people can attend.
4. It's on my birthday.
5. And last but not least We have some very special guests!
(This I'll get to an another post.)

For those of you who have never heard of 24 hour comics it's a wonderful event where creative procrastinators like me put aside an entire 24 hour day to focus and produce their own personal 24 page comic.

It's not a competition, or a race. Just a personal marathon of creativity. We're inviting you to come in and sign up in the store. It's free to attend all you require is whatever media you choose to make your comic in. Digital, inks, paints, crayon. No rules just the guideline of 24 pages in 24 hours. You may have to take care of your own meals, but we're working diligently on getting this covered for participants.

Please do sign up early so we know how much space and resources we'll need to have prepared for artists.

Mario Kart Grand Prix

It's time for another touney guys, so this time around, we're running Mario Cart on Wii.

Each player will play one chapionship of four races, set at "Strategic". The top two players from every championship will move on in this single elimination tournament.

Entrance fee will be $10 per person, and the will be a maximum of 32 seats so please register at the store as soon as possible.

Holy smokes folks. It’s looking to be a big weekend for 4 Colour 8 Bit. And we hope you can make it down for some of the action. Here are some of the big things going on...

Free Comic book day:
Just as it sounds we’re giving away free comic books from a number of established publishers and you’re welcome to a few yourself just for showing up.

Shadomoor Release Tournament:
The new block of Magic the Gathering, Shadowmoor, has released today. We’re kicking it off Saturday with a sealed deck tournament. Get your hands on the new set and get a foil version of the popular card “Vexing Susher.” If you hate counterspells, this card’s for you.

Blow Your Allowance:
You might not know Erin “IvyClimber” Robinson by name, but if you’ve seen an issue of Golden Words in the last 4 years you might know her as the one who did that comic that’s been on your fridge all semester. She has 4 years of solid work to show for her stay in Kingston and we’re excited to be selling her book in the store. You can have her 54 page anthology of awesome for only $17.95.

Bring a partner in our 32 man multi-player tournament on Sunday the 13th of April

Smash Bros Brawl Tournament : Sunday April 13th 12:00pm - 9:00pm
$15 per group
All money goes into the tournament's prize pool.
Max 32 players. Spots are filling quick so hurry up!

4 groups of 8 will be given an hour to meet at the store and compete in 3 five minute timed games.

The semi finals and finals will also take place in the Fanatics sports lounge's "private sky box" open to everyone with free playing after. It should be a great night. So even if you're not entered, come see the action and play free!

Important info for participants :
We'll do our best to supply controllers, but participants are welcome to bring their own gamecube, and classic controllers.

Feel free to research controls on gamefaqs etc. to ensure you have an idea of what you're doing before you come because there's not going to be any practice rounds.

Also feel free to come in anytime and warm up with our store copy of Smash Bro's Brawl.
